How to Clean up Your Makeup Routine (Part 2)
/If you missed part one of our Savvy Minerals series, you can read it here. We uncovered several gross ingredients that may be hiding in your makeup and explained the Savvy Minerals difference. Check out part one if you want to know more about finding the right foundation color, how to use the misting spray, or how to apply the mineral foundation.
Before we showcase the rest of the makeup line, we wanted to uncover two more gross ingredients that might be hiding in your makeup.
Guanine: There's nothing quite like an eyeshadow that catches the light just right and makes your eyes your standout feature... unless that glow comes from fish scales. Guanine is a crystalline mineral derived from fish scales. It provides the pearly, iridescent glow that comes from eyeshadow or highlighter.
Lead: Anyone who has taken a basic chemistry course in high school knows that lead isn't something that you want on your skin or in your body. In 2009 the FDA released a study that found lead in all the samples of lipstick that were tested. The levels ranged from 0.09 to 3.06 parts per million (ppm). A follow-up study was performed in 2010 and the results were even more terrifying: lead was found in 400 lipsticks at levels up to 7.19 ppm.
Savvy Minerals has everything you need for a full face of toxin-free makeup. If you have cleaned up your diet and switched to green cleaning products, it’s time to clean up your makeup routine. As a reminder, the entire line is free from talc, bismuth, parabens, phthalates, petrochemicals, synthetic fragrances, or synthetic colorants. Everything is vegan-friendly with the exception of the lipsticks which contain beeswax.
Blush, Bronzer, and Diamond Dust
Savvy Minerals has everything you need to contour and enhance your natural beauty.
Savvy Minerals Blush is available in 3 shades: Smashing (pink neutral), I Do Believe You're Blushin' (soft pink), and Passionate (dark brown rose). All three shades have a subtle shimmer. The colors appear natural on the skin and will give you a healthy and radiant sun-kissed glow.
The bronzer is available in two shades: Crowned All Over and Summer Loved. Both shades have a slight shimmer. If you prefer a matte bronzer, we suggest using one of the four dark foundations. Apply bronzer where shadows naturally occur on the face in order to accentuate your bone structure.
Diamond Dust is a mineral veil that serves two purposes. Use it to set your makeup and help your look last all day. In addition, Diamond Dust can be applied as a highlighter. Apply it anywhere the light would naturally hit your face to provide a healthy, radiant glow. Dark under-eye circles? Apply a light amount of Diamond Dust under your eyes (over your foundation) to reflect light and reduce the appearance of dark circles, giving your eyes a well-rested and bright appearance.
Eyeshadows
Savvy Minerals eyeshadows extremely versatile. Apply the shadows dry for a subtle look or "foil" them using the misting spray. Wetting the shadow creates a darker, deeper color that is perfect for an evening look. To apply the shadow wet, simply shake the desired shadow into the lid, spray your eyeshadow brush lightly with the misting spray, and dip the brush into the shadow. We recommend purchasing two or three colors to create a custom look. Don't be afraid to mix and match colors to create a look that is unique to you.
There are currently eight eyeshadow colors available:
- Wanderlust: pale shimmer
- Residual: pale beige shimmer
- Best Kept Secret: matte nude
- Spoiled: matte pink
- Crushin': nude peach with light shimmer
- Diffused: matte plum
- Unscripted: matte warm purple
- Determined: medium brown shimmer
Eyeliner and Multitasker
If you haven't used powder eyeliner before, don't let it scare you. This eyeliner can be applied wet or dry. If you prefer liquid eyeliner, add a small amount of powder to the container lid and add spray the Misting Spray directly into the lid to create a liquid eyeliner that can be painted on with ease. The eyeliner is currently available in one color: Jet Setter, a deep matte black. Press lightly to create a lighter color. If you have lighter skin or prefer a dark brown eyeliner, Multitasker can be used.
Multitasker has several uses, but we love it for brows. It can be applied wet or dry. Although the color looks dark, pressing lightly will get you a light brown that works well for lighter hair and skin tones. If the color is too dark for you, mix in a small amount of your foundation until you achieve the desired shade. Multitasker can also be used as an eyeshadow or eyeliner.
Lipgloss and Lipstick
Have fun playing with lip colors! All of the lip glosses and lipsticks layer beautifully and pair well together. Switching up your look is as easy as changing your lip color.
Savvy Minerals Lipgloss is available in two shades: Abundant (a pale peach) and Embrace (a pale pink). Both colors are neutral and have a subtle shimmer. The best part about these lip glosses is that they aren't sticky!
The Lipsticks are currently available in four shades that flatter any skin tone: On a Whim (beige nude), Daydream (pale peachy nude), Wish (pale pink), Uptown Girl (dusty rose).
